Question & Answer with Swami Prakashanand
Question: What can I do to keep remembering the Divine name throughout the day?
Answer: The first thing is to understand the importance of remembrance. In the beginning, you feel the importance, then love, then longing these are the steps. Once you know the importance of God realization, the importance of human life, and the opportunity given to you in this lifetime you won’t forget. We forget things when we don’t give much importance to them.
The second thing is you have to develop love for Him. To develop love for Him, you have to purify your heart, and to purify your heart you have to do the same thing – remembering Him consciously and doing service. So, carefully remembering Him, doing your devotions regularly without fail, and doing some service; this will purify your mind, and then you’ll begin to feel love for Krishn. When you begin to feel love for Krishn, you have to remember Him with love.
For instance, during the daytime, working or not working, just think that every one hour or every half hour, you have to think of Radha Krishn, definitely. So just like regular devotions, similarly during the day and night carefully try to remember Him from time to time.
You do this by applying your intellect. “Yes, I have to do this thing.” Then after some time it becomes natural.
Conclusion: Swami Prakashanand Saraswati’s teachings remind us that remembrance of the Divine name is a gradual process that requires understanding it’s importance, love, service, and regular practice. When we consciously and consistently remember Radha Krishn, our hearts are purified. Then the remembrance becomes natural, and has the potential to transform our lives into a continuous expression of loving devotion.
